Bodtker Ironworks – Now Hiring Event Blacksmiths
Bodtker Ironworks LLC is currently seeking experienced blacksmiths and aspiring event smiths to join our Renaissance and festival crews for the 2026 season and beyond.
We are a Michigan-based interactive blacksmithing company specializing in live forging demonstrations and hands-on “Forge-A-Memory” experiences at Renaissance festivals, Celtic festivals, medieval fairs, and special events throughout the Midwest.
What We Do
Our crews provide:
Live blacksmithing demonstrations
Interactive forging experiences for patrons (ages 3+)
Educational engagement about traditional metalworking
Safe, high-energy entertainment in a festival environment
This is not a quiet shop position. It is physical, public-facing, and performance-driven.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking individuals who:
Are 18 years of age or older
Have prior blacksmithing or metalworking experience (preferred but not required for the right candidate)
Can work long, physically demanding days in outdoor environments
Are comfortable speaking to and engaging with the public
Can maintain high safety standards at all times
Are dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
Festival work requires stamina, professionalism, and the ability to perform consistently in heat, cold, crowds, and high-energy environments.
Crew Structure
We operate multiple crews, including:
Michigan / Travel Crew
Ohio Crew
Some positions require travel. Reliable transportation is required. Travel compensation and lodging details are discussed during the hiring process when applicable.
Compensation
Pay structure includes:
$150 per day base rate
Performance-based bonuses tied to event revenue
Setup and teardown pay
Opportunities for growth within the organization
